Key Points

  • The post questions whether research on 2D semantic segmentation has become saturated across supervised, semi-supervised, and domain-adaptation settings.
  • It asks whether there are still promising new research directions beyond open-set segmentation.
  • The discussion reflects a perceived slowdown in novel paper topics addressing core segmentation problem statements.
  • The intent is to identify gaps and emerging directions for future segmentation research efforts.

Nowadays I dont see a lot of papers addressing 2D semantic segmentation problem statements be it supervised, semi-supervised, domain adaptation. Is the problem statement saturated? Are there any promising research directions in segmentation except open-set segmentation?
