Key Points

  • A Reddit user with a Framework 13 laptop (32GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 7640U) is looking for good local AI models to run locally.
  • The goal is to test how capable local models are across different tasks on relatively constrained hardware.
  • They are interested in ways to run these models efficiently, including optimization approaches and practical resources.
  • A key motivation is reducing reliance on frontier closed-weight models for simple or “menial” tasks.
  • They ask for specific model recommendations, including model specs and references to guides or tools for local deployment.

Hi, I'm using a framework 13 laptop - 32gb RAM, amd ryzen 5 7640u. I would like to try local models. I don't have particular tasks in mind but would like to try them for various tasks to see how far the local models are reached.

I want to understand how they perform on low spec hardware, various ways to try them or optimize them and use them for what they are good at to reduce my dependency on frontier closed weight models for menial tasks.

Please help me with the models and their specs or any resources that i can refer to.
