Key Points

  • The post asks for experiences moving from 24GB to 48GB VRAM by adding another Radeon 7900 XTX for local LLM usage.
  • The author is only “semi satisfied” with newer Qwen model results and wants to know whether the larger VRAM translates into a noticeable quality-of-life improvement.
  • It specifically asks whether 48GB VRAM meaningfully increases capabilities by running larger models in that VRAM range.
  • The main use case is coding workflows using open-source code (Local LLaMA context), focusing on practical gains rather than benchmarking alone.

Hi all

I m debating purchasing another 7900xtx in addition to the one I'm currently using pushing my vram from 24 to 48. I'm semi satisfied with the new qwen models. I wanted to hear your experiences in terms of quality of life improvement going from 24 to 48 GB vram. Do you think there's significant capability gain from running a larger model in that range ? My main use case is coding via open code
