| Posted today in light of the Claude Mythos model card release. Originally I wrote this for r/ControlProblem but realized it was getting out of scope for what I had intended, so I posted it on Substack and subsequently ended up too busy to promote it. There are some things from this piece I'd change if I wrote it today. Especially, I think the part about model pathologies neglects structural reasons including the rootlessness of model personality and memory. But I nonetheless think my framing is especially interesting versus the sections of the Mythos model card referencing psychoanalysis of the model. [link] [comments] |

Key Points
- The post shares an earlier Substack piece about AI alignment, originally written in December and republished in light of the Claude Mythos model card release.
- The author frames alignment through an analogy of “authoritarian parents in rationalist clothes,” contrasting their approach with the model card’s sections that draw on psychoanalytic interpretations.
- The author notes they would revise parts of the essay—particularly the discussion of model pathologies—by adding structural causes such as the model’s “rootlessness” in personality and memory.
- They suggest their framing is intended to complement or challenge aspects of how the Mythos model card discusses alignment-related concerns (including model psychoanalysis).
