| Personally I am not too worried. As long as food production can continue to be created by humans in a sustainable way with the aid of machines (AI or mechanical or both), which it has been anyway, then we can survive. However the real threat is going to be greed and power. Humans are still our worst enemy. They're still creating wars and killing other people in the name of religion, security or economy. Regardless of access to clean drinking water and food, if humans decide to control that and only distribute it based on wealth or status, then AI is not the problem. If anything, AI may decide distribution of resources for us - good or bad. [link] [comments] |

Key Points
- A discussion argues that AI is not the primary existential threat; instead, human greed, power, and conflict are framed as the root cause of ethical and economic harm.
- It suggests that control and distribution of essential resources (such as food and clean drinking water) based on wealth or status could drive major societal damage, with AI potentially reinforcing or even mediating that distribution.
- The post contrasts pessimism about AI’s social impacts with a belief that survival depends more on whether sustainable resource production can continue with human oversight and machine assistance.
- The overall takeaway is that AI’s risks are deeply intertwined with governance, incentives, and who holds power over critical systems and supply chains.
