Key Points

  • The post asks for advice on submitting a paper to NeurIPS 2026 after splitting an earlier arXiv work into two parts.
  • The author worries reviewers may view the new submission as incremental research due to the prior arXiv publication.
  • They plan to change the title and framing and want to know whether that is sufficient to address the “incremental” concern.
  • The question seeks others’ experiences and whether this is a reasonable doubt in the context of top conference reviewing.

Hey,

I have a paper on ArXiV that I am splitting into two. I want to send the first part to NeurIPS; however, I am scared that reviewers will say that it is incremental research, given my paper on ArXiV. I am going to change the title and framing of the paper, so I feel like this may be a real risk. Does anyone know if it is actually a reasonable doubt? Has anyone experienced something similar?
