Key Points

  • The post asks users to share specific “I’ll be impressed when AI can do X” milestones, using examples focused on audio/music understanding and creative game creation.
  • One proposed benchmark is an AI that can take an image of musical notes, set up the correct instruments through programming, and then accurately play the song.
  • Another benchmark is an AI that can, with a simple prompt, generate a fully functioning, enjoyable classic arcade-style pinball game, which the author says no current model has come close to delivering.
  • The prompt frames these goals as evolving tests the author tries with each new model release, emphasizing real-world capability and end-to-end functioning rather than isolated outputs.

I have two at the top of my mind:

  1. When it can read musical notes. I will be mildly impressed when I can paste in a picture of musical notes and with programming sets up instruments needed to play music, and then correctly plays the song it reads from the notes.

  2. My jaw will drop when finally with a simple prompt an AI can create a classic arcade style fully functioning and fun to play Pinball game. Each new version of models that become available I give that one a go. None have been even remotely close to achieving this goal.

So what are your visions for what will impress you to some extent when an AI can make it for you?
